It's the Glow Zone!
Or, specifically "Sonic X-Treme Glow Zone Color In Book"!
This RARE book of posters was made in, then only available in Australia. It's certainly in the photo category of 'seldom seen', so these may be the actual ONLY photos of this thing on the internet. So, it's time to take a good look & check out this interesting glow in the dark book. It's an 'over-size' book with 12 pull-out posters for you to color. The line art is the part that glows. Every page-back is blank & the edges are perforated so you can get them out of the book. It was published in 1997 by Pancake Press.
Because the game "Sonic X-Treme" never came out, stuff dedicated to it is pretty uncommon. This book interperated the 'xtreme' to mean "sports", & so that's what all the art is: Sonic doing random sports while wearing a selection of sometimes odd clothing and accessories.
Notice something missing?
Sonic NEVER is shown with a MOUTH in any of the art. Where'd it go? Why leave it out?
The first is him doing a martial art with a yin-yang dot on the uniform. The next is down-hill mountain biking, then jumping a snowboard while wearing a backpack, hand-standing a skateboard while wearing shorts & a thick hair band?? Kicking a soccer-football in a jersey & different shoes (also headband) Slam Dunking a basketball while breaking the backboard & having flames around the ball. This one the shoes are changed to basketball...ish...shoes, the headband is back & he's in full basketball uniform with "32" on the jersey.
All the writing at the bottoms of the pages is just the copyright info & date, it doesn't tell a story or describe the image. It's the same on every page.
With these, Sonic is mountain climbing with cleat shoes, rollerblading with wheels added to the normal shoes, a random hoppin' mad Robotnick, bungee jumping Sonic (notice how he looks fretful, it's the only one where his expression is different) & finally Robotnick doing a...standing there with his fist out? Notice that one image is missing. Someone ripped it out of the book. It can be seen up there on the back cover though, it's "Surfing Sonic" with him on a surfboard looking like he will fall off of a small wave.
The Sonic art isn't terrible, but the missing mouth is a mystery. Why is AOSTH Robotnick here? Because Australia-marketing was always obsessed with SatAM & AOSTH over the games. They loved this 'dumb Robo' buffoon character & because the game wasn't released when the book got the green light...well, just add him in.
This book is uncommon.
