Jakks Pacific Classic Tails Plush prototype
Here is Jakks Pacific's prototype for Classic Tails Plush. It's fine that this is a prototype, because it could still use some work. The ears shouldn't be flopping down/looking wilted like that. The head is a tad big, and clearly (because you can't see them) the tails part...of TAILS are too…

There is a Fighters Plush forum & rarity index / currently keeping up with prices & info at Fighters Plush , the website! (update: sonicthefightersplush.com no longer exists)

If ever there was a set of plushes to wish for, this would be it! Amazingly rare dolls in this collection made for the obscure arcade game Sonic the Fighters. You can now play Sonic the Fighters on Sonic Gems collection for the Game Cube. This set has a nicely done Knuckles, Tails, and Sonic...but Amy's got her mallet!

The back row are the real treasures. Who has EVER seen a plush Bark the Polar Bear? Bean the Dynamite Duck has his bomb, and Fang Knack the Sniper Weasel comes with his Cork gun. Eggman in the background is striking a pose, and even METAL SONIC has a plush version. Totally unbelievable!

The Sonic is up to a good standard here, as can be expected. This detail shot lets you see the fabric of Fang's construction, and exposes his holster/cork-gun detail. The hat is so 3D and excellent! No wonder he always commands a price above $100 USD when you see him for sale online!

Here are close ups from Fang / Knack the Weasel? Revealing him to be fairly large. Look at his 3D detailed hat, and holster for his cork gun! He even has 'metal' plates on the backs of his gloves. They really went all out making these Sonic the Fighters dolls! His tag is a copy of the STF video game arcade art. (square, pixelated, and all)
Watch out for high prices here! Knack can go for more than $100.00 on Ebay. Close Up Fang?

Here is Bark from the Sonic the Fighters collection in 1996. With these photos you can really see the detail, unlike the group shot. He's got the markings on his gloves, and is detailed with his hat and fringe scarf, just like in the game. Note also the fuzzy fur chest patch and felt 'hair' accents. He even has the 'long hair' in back--but it looks more like tentacles or something. Still, this is a good rare plush.

Note the string on top, you could hang this up on a hook. Was this a UFO-catcher item, or could you just buy it around the release of the Arcade Game Sonic the Fighters?

Here's Espio!
For how popular he is, it's sad to see this is his only plush. However, it's a fairly decent rendition to him, with curling tail and interesting head-fin. They even added the buckles to his shoes. His best view is defenetely the side though, as the black space around his eyes is kind of odd. Still, this guy is a must have for any Espio fan! (remember his costume changed for Sonic Adventure)

On Ebay (the only place to aquire one any more) these ROUTINELY sell for over $1,000 USD! A Thousand Dollars,--at this price he's one of the most expensive plushes you'll ever run-across.

Bean the Dynamite Duck Plush
Here it is, sitting with a smily big-mouth UFO-Sonic in someone's collection. You can see his red bandana, but where is his bomb? It did come with the plush, because other characters had their accessories (Like Amy's mallet etc) His beak is a bit big, but it still looks ok.

With this profile and front shot by Rhia, you can really get a good idea of how the Bean the Dynamite Duck looks. His bomb accessory is shiny, and his bandana has a nice little tie in the back. You can see they've even given him a felt tail feather or two.
As with all of the 'lesser known' characters, this guy is pretty rare.

Here's a close up of the Sonic the Fighters Knuckles doll. As with all the STF plushes, this one is pretty well done. His nose is a bit big, making him look somewhat 'friendly', but his details are all well done. He has felt knuckle-spikes, and his spikes are curved inward, not just pointing anywhere like on other plushes. However, there are no bolts on the tops of his shoes.

Remember, the group shot of all these guys is on Japan Plush Page 2. And the Sonic the Fighters plushes are SOMETIMES available at Animemate.com as they do deal in vintage items.

Here's a nice shot from the side of Fighters Amy Rose
You can see even at this early date of 1996, they had her spikes done very well, especially at this size. Some plushes today don't even measure up. She has her old skirt, shirt and headband too. It looks like she may be sewn with the mallet always behind her. Notice they went with a "Fuzzy Patch" for her bangs/hair instead of felt. You can even see her embroidered eyelash details!

Here's Sonic the Fighters series Tails with a nice close up. Again, it's a pretty solid plush for something not-that-large, though the eyes are rather big. His bangs and fur at the edges of his cheeks are felt additions, and they used an appropriate nose as well. Though not as difficult as some, any fighters plush will be rather hard to come by.

Here's a close up & turn arounds to get a better look at Sonic the Fighters Plush Set Tails. (The group photo for them is on a different page) These were all small, somewhat simple plushes, but the set was remarkable because it had so many rare characters in it. Tails looks good here, with nice big tails, good shoe shape and an ok expression. The things to note here are the tags (front and back, paper & cloth) as there are a LOT of fakes of this set circulating around due to high prices.

This Metal Sonic plush is proof that Japan (and especially this revered line of STF plushes) did not do everything right. With giant doughy body, poorly added triangluar head spikes, ears in the wrong place, wrongly colored hands, and awkward arms, this plush is nearly a mutant. They did use shiny fabric to simulate the metal surface, but it is sadly the design that's off. Don't mistake that for thinking it'll cost less, this is still a very rare and expensive plush despite it's odd looks.

Behold! A Super Sonic Plush!
This rare find is from the Sonic the Fighters plush set...although it isn't seen in the official 'group photos' of the set. Why not? Possibly because it was a surprise doll or some sort of purposeful rare. Which is super unfortunate, because there is hardly anything of SuperSonic despite how much people love him.
As you can see, the spikes on the plush are standing up, just like in the game, and he has some kind of 'meany eyes'. This isn't just some re-colored regular Sonic, they've brought the real deal here! Trying to buy? Watch out! As rare as he is, a collector paid 220 Pounds for him. That's about $440.00 USD

These shots get you a closer look at some of the famous (and expensive) Sonic the Fighters plush collection. The Super Sonic, you can actually see the texture of, and that they bothered to add his eyebrow ridge. The spikes are also clearly standing upward, as they should be. Remember, this is from the days before any eye-color change was present, so they are black, as they should be for the era.
The Espio the Chameleon is also well done and with his turn-around you can see the details of the shoes (with buckles) and that he has the spikes along his back, and curling tail. The face is rather well done and he's accurate seeming from the back as well. These will occaisionally go into and out of stock at www.animemate.com , which sells vintage plushes such as these.

Here's a nice close-up of the Sonic the Fighters Eggman plush. While it seems simplistic, it's actually got some nice detailing. His pants are quite fuzzy, the glasses are a hard plastic, and he even has a plastic nose. If you look closely, you'll see they even bothered to give him teeth. The felt moustache is nice and big too. He has the 'giant finger' thing going on, (Much like some Sonics) but over all this is still a great plush to have for Eggman fans!
